Jr. Academy Program
Jr. Academy Program 2022-23
The Jr. Academy
program is designed to support players as they transition from recreation-level programs to competitive soccer. Gender-specific teams are formed through an evaluation process, with players placed on a team with players of similar ability. 8U through 12U teams practice two times a week, with 8U playing 4v4, 9U-10U playing 7v7 and 11U-12U playing 9v9 small-sided games. These small-sided games allow for more touches on the ball, involving all the players on the field. Games are on Saturdays and Sundays in Greenville and Anderson against teams from across the upstate as well as teams from the Midlands, the Coast, Georgia, and North Carolina.
Training
is the most important aspect of our Jr. Academy Program. Practices are two times per week in 1.5 hour sessions with an additional optional night of "T.A.S.K." training by CASA coaches. We believe that with the correct training, optimal growth and individual progress can be made at this age.
Technical Ability Speed and Keeper (T.A.S.K.)
is a one hour technical training session that incorporates Coerver and skill moves with a concentration on passing and technical work in addition to speed, agility and finishing technique. Keeper training is also incorporated for all goal keepers in the club.
Fall season
for the Jr. Academy teams begins with a pre-season team camp at the beginning of August and practices starting a week later. The season begins with a September tournament and league games conclude in November. Training continues until early December as teams work towards a post-season tournament in early or mid-December.
Spring season
training begins in early to mid-January and continues until mid to end of April. League games follow this schedule with breaks for tournaments.
Age Range
for the Jr. Academy program is 8U-12U. Click

Tryouts
Select (Classic/Challenge/NPL/SCCL) 13U-14U
13U-14U (10-09) - 2022-23
Select 13U-14U
can be divided into Classic and Challenge level teams. Challenge is the highest level program that our club currently offers. All select level teams are formed through a tryout process in May for training and games that begin in August. Players age levels are determine by the
SCYS age matrix
.
Classic
level teams compete in the statewide Presidents Medal Soccer League (PMSL) and can play between eight and ten games each fall and spring season. These games are usually on weekends but there could be an occasional weekday game against a local club. Game locations depend on the clubs in the team's bracket and sometimes there is travel to the midstate, Greenwood and Spartanburg. The spring season culminates in the Publix President's Medal Cup in April and classic teams must qualify for this tournament by finishing in the top eight.
Challenge
level teams compete in the statewide South Carolina State Challenge League (SCSCL) and can play between eight and ten games each fall and spring season. These games are usually on weekends but there could be an occasional weekday game against a local club. Game locations depend on the clubs in the team's bracket but games could be as far away as Greenwood, Columbia and/or Spartanburg. The spring season culminates in the Bob Brantley Publix Challenge Cup in April and teams must qualify for this tournament by finishing in the top six*.
Practices
are three times a week in one of two locations; Michelin Athletic Fields in Sandy Springs or Nettles Park in Clemson.
Fall Season
for all teams begins early August with team camp. Training begins a week later and league games usually start at the end of August. Teams will compete in an early season tournament. League play ends in November followed by a late season tournament and a break from training during Christmas holidays.
Spring Season
training begins in mid-January for our 13U and 14U teams and continues until late April. Teams will compete in two tournaments.
We strongly believe that continuing with CASA’s spring training is important to your child’s soccer development as 11v11 soccer is first introduced at the 13U age. Because we work with age-specific teams, we can focus our training to better suit the needs of your child’s development while junior varsity coaches may be faced with a 4-5 year age range and an equally wide physical, technical, and tactical range. Nevertheless, we appreciate the desire that many 7th and 8th graders have to play for their school’s junior varsity program and that scheduling conflicts might arise. On a player-by-player basis, we will work with your family to resolve scheduling issues.
* depends on the number of Premier level teams who have automatic byes into the Challenge Cup
